Roberto Croce, Ph.D.

Managing Director, Quantitative Strategies

Roberto Croce is a managing director of quantitative strategies at Salient. He is the lead portfolio manager on Salient’s risk parity and managed futures strategies and co-portfolio manager on several other funds. In addition, Roberto and his team built Salient’s quantitative software and hardware platform from the ground up and continue researching potential strategy improvements and new products. Prior to joining Salient in 2011, Roberto taught macroeconomics and finance at Ohio State University, published academic research and served as a research assistant to Professor Don Haurin. In 2010, Roberto interned in the Strategic Research group at the Teacher Retirement System of Texas. Dr. Croce earned both a master’s and a doctoral degree in economics from Ohio State University and a Bachelor of Science in economics from Penn State University.

Aaron Visse, CFA

Aaron Visse is a portfolio manager at Salient and co-manages the Dividend Signal Strategy® portfolios. Aaron focuses on the global infrastructure market and specializes in the energy, utilities and transportation equity sectors as well as companies based in South America. Previously, Aaron was a portfolio manager and researched global infrastructure and REITs at Kensington Investment Group, Inc. In 2009, Kensington was acquired by Forward Management, and subsequently in 2015, Salient acquired Forward. Before joining Kensington in 2002, Aaron worked as a senior research analyst at Linsco/Private Ledger (LPL) Financial Services where he followed REITs and financial services companies. Aaron holds a Bachelor of Science in business from the University of Colorado Boulder and Master of Science in business administration from San Diego State University. He is a CFA® charterholder and member of CFA Society of San Francisco.

Ted Gardner, CFA

Managing Director

Ted Gardner is a managing director and serves as co-portfolio manager at Salient in the firm’s MLP complex. He oversees and coordinates all investment modeling, due diligence, company visits and management conferences. Ted formerly served as portfolio manager and director of research at RDG Capital, LLC, a Houston-based asset management firm specializing in MLP investments. RDG was acquired by Salient in 2011. Previously, Ted served as a research analyst with Raymond James and Associates following approximately 35 MLPs in the pipeline, midstream, propane, maritime, and coal industries. Ted is a CFA® charterholder and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from The University of Texas at Austin and an MBA from the University of St. Thomas, Cameron School of Business in Houston, Texas.

Rusty Guinn

Executive Vice President of Asset Management

Rusty Guinn is the executive vice president of asset management at Salient. He oversees Salient’s retail and institutional asset management business, including investment teams, products, and strategy. Rusty shares his perspective and experience as an investor on the Epsilon Theory website. Prior to joining Salient in 2013, Rusty was the head of strategic partnerships and opportunistic investments at the Teacher Retirement System of Texas. In this role, he was directly responsible for more than $11 billion of Trust capital and commitments across a multi-asset portfolio consisting of equity, fixed income, credit, private equity, real estate, and commodity investments, and oversight of the plan’s Strategic Partnership Program. Rusty started his career in roles with the Asset Management Finance affiliate of Credit Suisse and with De Guardiola Advisors, an investment bank advising the asset management industry. Rusty earned a Bachelor of Science in economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

David L. Ruff, CFA

Managing Director & Senior Portfolio Manager

David L. Ruff is a managing director and senior portfolio manager at Salient and co-manages the Dividend Signal Strategy® portfolios. David specializes in the materials and telecom equity sectors as well as companies based in Asia Pacific and central Asia. Previously, David was chief investment officer for Berkeley Capital Management, LLC. In 2008, Forward Management acquired Berkeley, and subsequently in 2015, Salient acquired Forward. Prior to joining Berkeley in 2001, David was chief investment officer of London Pacific Advisors where he chaired the LPA Investment Policy Committee. From 1998 through 2001, David served as president and director for the Security Analysts of Sacramento. David graduated magna cum laude from Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Science in finance. David is a CFA® charterholder and currently a member of CFA Institute and the Security Analysts of San Francisco.

Nicholas Millikan, CAIA, CFA

Director, Head of Investment Strategy

Nicholas Millikan is a director and head of investment strategy at Salient. Nicholas oversees the investment strategy group which includes client portfolio management and product management functions, as well as the performance & RFP team. In this role, Nicholas is responsible for the development and dissemination of product messaging for the Salient investment platform. Nicholas is also the client portfolio manager for the quantitative asset allocation team, representing the team’s strategies to institutional and intermediary clients. Prior to joining Salient in 2012, Nicholas was an account manager with BlackRock where he served as a liaison between local portfolio management teams and institutional clients, including corporations, central banks and sovereign wealth funds located in Asia Pacific, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the United States. Previously, he was a member of the quantitative research team at Navigator Australia. Nicholas has a Master of Applied Finance from Financial Services Institute of Australasia and Bachelor of Commerce (finance) with distinction from Deakin University, both located in Australia. Nicholas is a CAIA charterholder and a CFA® charterholder.

Nathan J. Rowader

Senior Portfolio Manager

Nathan Rowader is a senior portfolio manager at Salient and member of the firm’s quantitative asset allocation team. He is responsible for overseeing trading, valuation, risk and portfolio management. Previously, Nathan was chief investment officer at Accessor Capital Management, L.P. In 2008, Forward acquired Accessor, and subsequently in 2015, Salient acquired Forward. Before joining Accessor in 2007, Nathan held roles involving the development and execution of quantitative and systematic portfolio strategies across equity, commodity, rates and currency asset classes primarily using derivatives. Nathan earned an MBA from the University of Colorado in Denver.
